Influence of SARS observed on YUSCO financial results

Taiwanese stainless steel producer Yieh United Steel Corp. (YUSCO) reported a pre-tax profit of $7.2 million in May, which was 40% lower than its previous forecast of $11.5 million. Since most customers of YUSCO come from the main land China, the threat of getting infected by the SARS has influenced the customers in China hesitating in lading their goods. However, as Nickel is keeping soaring around $9'500, YUSCO expects that steel market would be brisk in July, if nickel prices would keep the levels of above $ 8'200.
