India’s SSMIL and TREL partner to set up renewable energy plant

India’s Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing Limited (SSMIL) has partnered with Tata Renewable Energy Limited (TREL) for the construction of a 28.21 MW renewable energy generating plant at the former’s steel mill in Maharashtra, a joint company statement said on Thursday, August 31.

The two companies will set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project that will include setting up the 28.12 MW solar energy plant to supply captive power to SSMIL’s steel mill.

The captive solar power plant is scheduled to start generation in March 2024 and will help to reduce SSMIL to reduce its carbon footprint by 42,534 mt per year.
