India’s GPIL starts wire rod production, launches iron ore beneficiation plant

India’s Godavari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL) has commenced production at its steel rolling mill and iron ore beneficiation plant this week, according to a regulatory filing by the company.

The company said that, following receipt of environmental and pollution control clearances from the central state government of Chhattisgarh, GPIL commenced production at its 400,000 mt per annum steel rolling mill and 1 million mt per annum iron ore beneficiation plant in the state. Wire rod from the new line will be sold in the local market and will increase the share of high value products for the company.

At the same time, the company is progressing in increasing its main business - iron ore pellet production, aiming to increase capacity from 2.1 million mt of pellets per year to 2.4 million mt. Under the expansion plan, GPIL has received state government clearance to increase the production capacity of the one pellet plant to 690,000 mt per annum from 600,000 mt at present through process optimization, the company stated in the regulatory filing.
