India’s ministry of coal has received 35 bids from 22 companies including Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) for 18 of the total 103 coal blocks auctions for which have commenced for user industries, a government official said on Thursday, June 29.

Of the coal blocks for which bids have been received included 9 partially explored blocks while the rest were fully explored, the official said.

The cumulative peak rated capacity (PRC) is 51.8 million mt, he said.

For the first time auctions were being held under amended mineral laws to open up the coal sector to provide a level-playing field to the public and private sector players and to permit the auction of coal mines without any restriction on end use. Coal from these mines can be utilized for own consumption, sale, or any other purposes.
