According to provisional customs data through the Ministry of Steel, India exported 7.29 million mt of pellets in the FY2019 April to January period, 4 percent lower than the 7.60 million mt in the same period the previous year. While overall pellet exports declined slightly, January pellet exports increased 46 percent month-on-month to 1.02 million mt in January from 0.70 million mt.
During the 10-month period, India exported 5.30 million mt (73 percent) to China, 0.85 million mt (12 percent) to South Korea, 0.19 million mt (3 percent) to UK, 0.17 million mt (2 percent) to Vietnam, 0.16 million mt (2 percent) to Oman, and 0.63 million mt (9 percent) to other destinations.
The largest shipper was BRPL with 1.91 million mt (26 percent) followed by JSPL with 1.44 million mt (20 percent), KIOCL with 1.18 million mt (16 percent), Rashmi Metaliks with 0.98 million mt (13 percent), Bagadiya Brothers with 0.65 million mt (9 percent), and other destinations with 1.13 million mt (16 percent).
The port with the highest pellet exports is Port Paradip with 3.80 million mt (52 percent). Port Dhamra exported 1.75 million mt (24 percent), Port Mangalore exported 1.18 million mt (16 percent), and other ports exported 0.56 million mt (8 percent).
