Indian government announces new import policy for steel scrap

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, a blast occurred at Bhusan Steel's factory in Ghaziabad due to imported scrap containers, containing explosives. Following the incident, Indian Customs Department announced that it planned to change the scrap import policy. The government's new policy, which was announced on Friday, requires a pre-shipment inspection certificate for all types of imported scrap, with the exception of unshredded scrap from thirteen ports selected. Moreover, the certificates will be issued by the 23 internationally renowned agencies recognized by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Before this decree, certificates were given by the suppliers only.
