Latin American crude steel production in the first eight months of the year totaled 32.2 million mt and dropped 31.5 percent compared to the same period last year, announced the Latin American Institute of Iron Ore and Steel (ILAFA) this week.
Brazil's crude steel production from January to August decreased amounted to 15.7 million mt, down34 percent year-over-year, while Mexico's dropped to 8,9 million mt or down 30.1 percent y-o-y, according to ILAFA's report.
Argentina's crude steel production in the eight-month period reached 2.4 million mt, registering a y-o-y drop of 39.5 percent.
Chile's crude steel production declined 36.1 percent, totaling 739,800 mt, and Paraguay's dropped to 33,500 mt or down 42.4 percent y-o-y.
Peru's production shrank 43.6 percent in the period and amounted to 434,100 mt, while Venezuela's totaled 2.5 million mt, dropping only 14.6 percent.
Flat rolled steel production in Latin America for the first eight months of the year decreased to 28.1 million mt, down 26.5 percent compared to last year.
