South Korean steelmaker Hyundai Steel has announced that it has developed earthquake-resistant reinforcing bars - the first time the products have been developed in South Korea - and the products are ready for mass production. Hyundai Steel also plans to acquire Korean Industrial Standards (KS) certification for these products by the end of this year. The company’s SD500 and SD600 earthquake-resistant reinforcing bars can withstand weights of 50 kilograms and 60 kilograms per one cubic meter, respectively.
The company stated that it expects a rapid increase in demand for earthquake-resistant steel in South Korea since all new multi-story buildings in the country will be required to be earthquake-resistant beginning from next year.
