South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Group has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea-based Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation to demonstrate new technologies for large-scale hydrogen production using biogas over the next two years.
The company will develop an integrated system to produce green hydrogen with a “waste-to-energy” concept. Hyundai Motor expects to produce 216 kilograms of green hydrogen per day, enough to charge more than 34 units of NEXO, Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle.
In addition, the company also announced that its global vehicle sales totaled 347,377 units in August, up by 3.2 percent year on year. Hyundai Motor sold 55,555 units in the domestic market in the given month, up by 12.9 percent, while its exports totaled 291,822 units, increasing by 1.5 percent, both year on year. The company stated that it is maintaining robust sales momentum due to the gradual recovery from the global parts shortage and the launch of new models, despite continued uncertainties in the business environment.
