South Korean steel and auto parts company Hyundai Hysco is known to be using 590 Mpa grade high-strength hot rolled coils (HRC), which domestic steelmaker Hyundai Steel has recently developed, in operating its pickling and tandem cold rolling mill (PL-TCM) at the Dangjin Plant of the company.
Hyundai Hysco is still using HRC supplied by POSCO and Japanese steelmakers but has already substituted Hyundai Steel's 340, 440 and 590 Mpa grade HRC for all Chinese HRC and is at the stage of stabilizing the quality of its products made from them.
"Even though our usage of 590 Mpa grade HRC is not so much at present, as the application of the HRC to our products for use in automotive parts is limited, but we are stabilizing the quality of our products made of them," said an official at Hyundai Hysco. He continued, "We are using Japanese HRC in the production of our automotive steel sheets for use in the outer bodies of automobiles, and we may be able to substitute Hyundai Steel's HRC for Japanese coils in producing our automotive steel sheets, as Hyundai Steel has recently developed its new HRC much for such a purpose."
