In recent days Hormozgan Steel has commissioned production at its first direct reduction iron (DRI) module, which will be formally inaugurated by the Iranian authorities within the next few days.
The module in question is the first of a project consisting of two Midrex DRI modules, each with an annual capacity of 825,000 mt, with the second DRI module due to come on stream within the next one to two months.
Meanwhile, Hormozgan Steel's new steelmaking plant with a capacity of 1.5 million mt per year is now in the last stages of construction and is expected to commence production in September or October this year.
Hormozgan Steel, which is based in the special zone for mining and metal industries in the Persian Gulf, about 13 km west of Bandar Abbas, has a current steelmaking capacity of 1.5 million mt of crude steel.
