Global Steel selects Morgan Construction for upgrade

News reports are quoting Michael Shore, VP of Engineering for Morgan Construction in Worcester, Mass. that the company has been awarded a contract from Global Steel S.A. in Santander, Spain, to upgrade its existing wire rod mill. The rod mill will be modified to roll at a speed of 105m/sec. But the heart of the upgrade will be the addition of a bar-in-coil outlet. For this purpose a three-strand bar reducing sizing mill (BRSM) will be installed. This is a new concept to the traditional four-strand BRSM. Installation of the equipment is scheduled for May 2006. Global Steel's rod mill (formerly known as Nueva Montana de Quijano) has been supplying wire rods to the US for a long time, mostly in high carbon and welding wire grades.
