According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.32 million metric tons in October this year, increasing by 2.2 percent year on year and falling by 0.2 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 42.33 million metric tons in the January-October period of this year, decreasing by 9.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in October this year. Iran’s DRI output was 1.48 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and United Arab Emirates in October, with estimated outputs of 1.19 million mt, 470,000 mt and 365,000 mt respectively.
