According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.23 million metric tons in February this year, increasing by 9.3 percent year on year and falling by 8.5 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 8.85 million metric tons in the January-February period of this year, increasing by 11 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in February this year. Iran’s DRI output amounted to 1.2 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in February, with estimated outputs of 1.15 million mt, 434,000 mt and 400,000 mt respectively.
