Global crude steel production for February 2007
Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production rose 8.6 percent year on year to 99 million metric tons in February 2007. China is again the largest steel-producing country with crude steel production of 36.1 million metric tons in February, an increase of 20.1 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asia region amounted to 54.1 million metric tons, up 13.6 percent a year ago. Germany produced 3.8 million metric tons of crude steel in February 2007, an increase of 3.1 percent year on year. France produced 1.7 million metric tons, a rise of 0.2 percent compared to the same month in 2006. Production in the UK was 1.2 million metric tons, 9.3 percent higher than February 2006. Brazil produced 2.5 million metric tons of crude steel in February, an increase of 17.6 percent compared to February 2006. Turkey's crude steel production rose 14.6 percent year on year to 1.9 million metric tons in February. Total production in the other Europe region was 2.3 million metric tons, an increase of 14.8 percent year on year.
