GCC finds serious injury in safeguard probe on coated sheet imports

The World Trade Organization (WTO) committee on safeguards has announced that in its safeguard investigation on certain coated sheet imports the GCC-Bureau of Technical Secretariat for Anti-Injurious Practices in International Trade (GCC-TSAIP) has preliminarily determined the existence of a massive increase of imports of the products under investigation and serious injury to the GCC industry. Based on the preliminary determination, GCC-TSAIP decided to continue the investigation and not to impose provisional measures.
 
The investigation launched upon the application filed by Saudi Arabia-based pre-painted steel coil producer Universal Metal Coating Company Ltd (UNICOIL) covers the period from 2012 to 2015.
 
According to GCC-TSAIP, the imports of the products subject to investigation totaled 405,809 mt in 2015, increasing from 193,552 mt recorded in 2012.
 
The products in question currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 721070 and 721090.
