Daniel R. DiMicco, Chairman Emeritus and former President and Chief Executive Officer of
Nucor, was inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame on November 17 by the Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas and the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
DiMicco was joined by Robert J. Barnhill Jr. of the Barnhill Contracting Company and Susan Cameron of Reynolds American Inc., each of whom was selected by a panel of business and community leaders for their significant contributions in building and defining the North Carolina business landscape.
John J. Ferriola,
Nucor's Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, praised DiMicco's career as an example for others to follow.
"Dan's leadership of
Nucor was the model which every company should attempt to match," Ferriola said. "The growth that
Nucor sustained over the dozen years of his leadership at a time of unprecedented global challenges is remarkable in every sense of the word. Congratulations, Dan, for this most worthy and deserved honor."
In 2005, during DiMicco's tenure at
Nucor, BusinessWeek magazine ranked
Nucor the nation's No. 1 Company, based on sales growth and return on investment. In subsequent years,
Nucor made three additional appearances on the BusinessWeek 50 list. In 2008, Mr. DiMicco received the Charlotte Business Journal's sixth annual "Business Person of the Year" award. The Harvard Business Review included Dan in its 2010 top 100 list of "The Best Performing CEOs in the World." Additionally, he has been previously inducted into the IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
