Chile, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, and Colombia appeared on a top 20 list, unveiled this week, of countries that produced the most in terms of mining value in 2014. The Mining Contribution Index (MCI) was produced by the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM).

According to ICMM, out of the five Latin American countries that appeared in the list, Brazil was among those to decline in ranking in the ICMM since 2010. Brazil fell from the 3rd to the 9th position in 2014, compared to rankings from 2010 and 2012.

Colombia, which appears at the 19th position in the 2014 ranking, is one of the new entrants in the list. Chile, Peru and Mexico ranked 6th, 11th, and 12th, respectively, in the 2014 list.
ICMM said Brazil’s mining production value in 2014 was $35.8 billion. As for Chile, Peru, Mexico, and Colombia those figures were $47.1 billion, $23.1 billion, $16.7 billion and $6.6 billion, respectively.
