Evraz Holding reports decrease in steel production

Russian steel producer Evraz Holding has reported reduction in its steel production in Jan-July period due to falling Asian prices resulting from the measures taken by the Chinese government to slow down the country's economy. According to the report released by the company, in Jan-July period crude steel production decreased by 1.6% to 7.9 million tons, rolled steel production decreased by 2.3% to 7 million tons and pig iron production decreased by 5.3% to 6.6 million tons when compared to the figures recorded in the first seven months of 2003. In July Evraz Holding produced 1.1 million tons of crude steel, down by 0.4%, 1 million tons of rolled steel, up by 2.1% and 973'400 tons of pig iron, down by 1.2% when compared with July 2003 figures.
