European cruise lines to buy 23 new cruise ships by 2014

Between 2011 and 2014 European cruise lines will spend €10.8 million to buy 23 new cruise ships, giving a massive stimulus to employment and revenues in the shipbuilding sector.


The announcement was made on June 15 in the Belgian capital Brussels during the fifth annual meeting of the European Cruise Council (ECC), a meeting which was entitled ‘Cruise industry leading European economic recovery". The European Cruise Council (ECC) includes a total of 30 European cruise lines.


"The cruise industry will keep on driving economic recovery by creating new jobs in the shipbuilding sector and in port operations" stated ECC president Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio at the meeting.
