As of October 1, 2009, Russia utilized 36.3 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU) for the current year, while Kazakhstan utilized 1.1 percent of its allocated EU quota of 205,000 mt.
According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 1,127,069 tons of steel products to the EU in the period in question. The quota allocated to Russia for 2009 is 3,106,775 tons.
Specifically, Russia used 54.94 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (582,884 of 1,060,875 allotted tons), significantly increasing its deliveries of the products in question to the EU, with deliveries rising by 8.1 percent in September alone. In addition, Russia utilized 20.37 percent of its plate quota (57,412 of 281,875 allotted tons), 36.7 percent of its alloy sheet quota (39,507 of 107,625 allotted tons), and 19.2 percent of its wire rod quota (63,764 of 332,100 allotted tons).
On the other hand, in September Kazakhstan commenced its steel product exports to the EU for the current year, supplying a total of 2,250 mt of flat rolled products up to the end of month in question, excluding hot rolled coils and heavy plates, using 1.9 percent of its allotted quota of 117,875 tons for flat rolled products.
