In March this year, new passenger car registrations totaled 1,792,599 units in the European Union (EU), decreasing 5.3 percent year on year, showing the first drop in March since 2014, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
In March of the current year, momentum in some markets started to slow, especially in the United Kingdom (‐15.7%). New car demand increased by 2.2 percent in France and by 2.1 percent in Spain, while it also fell by 5.8 percent in Italy and by 3.4 percent in Germany, all year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of this year, new passenger car registrations in the EU increased 0.7 percent year on year. In this period, passenger car registrations increased in Spain (10.5%), Germany (4.0%), France (2.9%), while car demand in Italy fell by 1.5 percent and in the United Kingdom dropped by 12.4 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
