EU commercial vehicle registrations up 4.5 percent in Sept

New commercial vehicle registrations across the EU increased by 4.5 percent in September compared to same month of last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in September, France (-3.5 percent) is the only country recording a decline, while the UK (+8.7 percent), Germany (+7.7 percent) and Spain (+4.7 percent) indicated an expansion.

In the January-September period of this year, a total of 1,436,453 new commercial vehicles were registered in the EU-27, or up 11.1 percent from the same period a year ago. Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in the first nine months of the year, Spain (-5.3 percent) was the only market to see a decline, while Germany (+21.2 percent), the UK (+18.6 percent) and France (+5.2 percent) indicated expansions.

All markets in the EU-27 posted strong growth in the new heavy commercial vehicles market except Greece (-58.5 percent) in the January-September period, leading to an overall year-on-year increase of 44.3 percent. From January to September, 234,108 new trucks were registered in the EU-27, or 34.8 percent more than in the same period last year. In the meantime, new registrations of buses and coaches were down by 10.2 percent year on year in September.
