EU and Ukraine strengthen relations
On February 21, 2005, the European Union and the Ukrainian government signed a three-year action plan to strengthen bilateral ties.
The action plan clarifies the main areas of reform
Ukraine needs to implement in order to meet EU standards. The areas cover subjects such as steel quotas and democratic safeguards.
Under the scope of the plan, the two sides agree to strengthen bilateral economic ties, work jointly toward
Ukraine's accession to the (World Trade Organization) WTO and work toward the establishment of a free trade area once
Ukraine joins the WTO.
