According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in December 2009 the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) increased by 0.5 percent month on month and was down 3.3 percent compared to December 2008. In November, the production figure had fallen by 0.8 percent compared to October.
As compared to November 2009, construction output in December rose only in Romania by 6.9 percent and in Spain by 6.2 percent, while year-on-year increases of 7.5 percent, 2.5 percent and 2.3 percent respectively were registered in Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic.
