EU-27 construction output up 0.2% in August from July

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in August this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) increased 0.2 percent as compared to July and was down by 6.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In July, production decreased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month.
 
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in August rose 0.7 percent month on month and was down by 5.5 percent compared to July 2011. In July, production increased 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
 
Building construction in the EU-27 in August declined by 0.1 percent month on month and was down 6.9 percent compared to August 2011, while civil engineering increased by 2.2 percent from July and was down 7.5 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.
 
As compared to July, construction output in August increased in Portugal by 10.4 percent, in Italy by 5.3 percent, and in Romania by 2.8 percent, while a decrease of 5.3 percent was registered in Hungary, a decrease of 2.8 percent was recorded in Germany and a fall of 1.7 percent was registered in the Czech Republic.
