EU-27 construction output increases after seven months in March

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in March this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) rose by 6.8 percent month on month and was down 2.4 percent compared to March 2009. In February, the production figure had decreased by 5.3 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data. The month-on-month increase registered in March was the first upward change in a seven-month period.
 
In the EU, building construction in March increased 7.3 percent month on month and was down 1.3 percent compared to March 2009, while civil engineering improved by 2.1 percent over February and was down 4.2 percent year on year.
 
As compared to February, construction output in March rose in Germany by 26.7 percent, in Hungary by 5.5 percent and in the Czech Republic by 4.7 percent.
