EU-27 construction output falls 0.6 percent in May over April

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 0.6 percent as compared to April and was down 2.4 percent compared to May 2009. In April, the production figure had increased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
 
In the EU, building construction in May dropped 0.5 percent month on month and was down 2.2 percent compared to May 2009, while civil engineering declined by 1.1 percent over April and was down 1.5 percent year on year.
 
As compared to April, construction output in May rose in the Czech Republic by 7.2 percent and in the Netherlands and in Poland both by 3.7 percent, while month-on-month decreases of 6.6 percent, 5.6 percent and 2.3 percent respectively were registered in Romania, Slovakia and Germany.
