The Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced the beginning of equipment supplies for the second polymer coating line at its Cherepovets Steel Plant.

The line is due to be completed by the end of 2009 and will have an annual production capacity of up to 200,000 metric tons of polymer coated products. With the new line in place, Severstal's annual production capacity for polymer coated products will reach 400,000 metric tons.

The total investment in the project amounts to Ruble 2.3 billion ($98 million). The products from the new line will be supplied for the needs of the Russian shipbuilding industry.

In addition, Severstal plans to complete reconstruction works at its HDG line at Cherepovets at approximately the same time as the construction of the second polymer coating line. This will allow Severstal to increase the volume of feedstock for its new polymer coating line.
