San Zeno, Brescia-based Italian beam and merchant bar producer Duferdofin-Nucor (DN), a joint venture between international group Duferco and US-based Nucor Corporation, announced it has halted as of March 12, all industrial activities at its facilities. The company specified that deliveries to customers and "a minimum presence of staff functions to guarantee the monitoring of the site" are excluded from the provision.

"At the moment, we have not recorded cases of contagion among our employees," DN clarified, "but we note a growing situation of social alarm and concern that on the one hand makes the supply of raw materials increasingly difficult and on the other hand disrupts our teams with serious risks for worker safety and plant protection." The decision to suspend industrial activities "is inspired by the principle of maximum caution and protection of our employees," said the company, adding that it wants to make the greatest possible contribution to fighting the spread of the virus.

DN hopes that, by its precautionary measures, "the conditions for restarting will be realized in the shortest possible time."
