Effective December 15, Mexican-based steel producer Deacero has acquired 100 percent of Tijuana, Mexico-based scrap metal processor Baja Metal Shredder and its assets, which includes a shredder mill and two feeder yards in Tijuana and Ensenada, Mexico.
According to Rodolfo Fernandez, Vice President of Recycling and Raw Materials for Deacero, Baja Metal Shredder will retain its name and operate under a wholly-owned subsidiary status, for the time being.
Baja Metal Shredder's Managing Partner, Larry Nora, confirmed that the deal will increase Deacero's scrap capacity by 25,000 metric tons per month.
