On February 9, officials representing China's Port of Dalian and a group of experts have held a meeting to discuss a proposal to build the Dalian Northeast Asia Iron Ore Logistics Center, as reported by local media in Dalian. The group of experts consisted of 12 officials from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Transport, the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), Dalian Commodity Exchange, Dalian Maritime University and Dalian University of Technology. They reviewed the proposal to build the new logistics center and have given the proposal their backing.
The new logistics center is expected to handle 15 million mt of imported iron ore per year by 2018 and 25-35 million mt of imported iron ore per year by 2020.
