Czech steelmaker Třinecké železárny (TŽ) has announced that it plans to invest more than CZK 3 billion ($118.4 million) in modernization and equipment renewal in the current year, with almost one third of the amount being earmarked for environmental projects.

Accordingly, the company will modernize its blooming mill, with a total investment of CZK 700 million ($27.56 million) and its continuous caster with a CZK 125 million ($4.91 million) investment. The other investment projects of the company include the purchase of a new drilling-sawing machine and the construction of new annealing furnaces. Meanwhile, as part of its environmental projects with a total value of CZK 940 million ($37.04 million), the company’s sinter plant No. 1 will be desulphurised to decrease sulphur dioxide emissions.

The company also stated that it expects to produce less steel this year due to longer shutdowns of equipment. In the current year, Třinecké železárny plans to produce 2.48 million mt of steel, compared to 2.6 million mt of steel produced last year.
