Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus has since last Friday temporarily suspended operations at the basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) plant at its Scunthorpe, UK-based facility, which is a part of Corus Construction & Industrial, following the outbreak of a major fire, according to local press reports. The company said that rolling operations at the facility in question are continuing.

Corus, a subsidiary of Indian steel giant Tata Steel, has confirmed that an internal inquiry has been launched into the cause of the blaze which erupted at about 3.40 pm on Friday. The company stressed that no employees were hurt.

The company has not revealed the cost of the repairs or what impact the temporary closure would have on steelmaking.

Corus Construction & Industrial supplies plates, sections, wire rod and semi-finished steel to a number of different markets including construction, stockholding, shipbuilding and engineering, energy, foundations and wire drawers.
