Construction of a new continuous caster at Venezuelan state-run steelmaker Sidor is reportedly advancing, the company said, with 60 percent of the construction complete.

Minimetals is building the caster equipment, which uses technology from Danieli.

The project is being executed by both Sidor personnel Vepica, a procurement, construction, and management projects company. Vepica is currently responsible for the project’s engineering, procurement and construction.

Sidor said the equipment should be complete by June 2018. At that time, Sidor will perform tests in order to comply with international standards before steel production commences in September 2018.
