Companhia Siderurgica Nacional SA announces plans to produce long products

Brazilian flat steel producer Companhia Siderurgica Nacional SA (CSN) has announced that it will commence production of long steel products by 2013.   The initiative, according to company representatives, will entail a financial investment of 3.3 billion reals, or US$1.86 billion.

At current, it is forecasted that starting in 2013, up to 1.5 million metric tons of longs products will be produced annually.  The company is currently producing approximately 5 million metric tons of flats products per year.

As with CSN's flats products, the sale of longs products will be targeted to the Brazilian domestic market.
