Coking coal imports to India hit 51.24 million mt in 2017

From various countries of origin, but primarily from Australia, India’s coking coal imports totaled 51.24 million mt for the full year 2017, according to custom data.

The average buying price of the premium hard coking coal was $168/mt in the first quarter, $177/mt in the second quarter, $195/mt in the third quarter, and $212/mt in the fourth quarter, with an annual average of $188/mt, all in FOB Australia terms.

In January 2018, coking coal imports declined by 4.4 percent compared to the previous month but increased 22 percent compared to the same month a year ago.
