Coal transportation by railway in China down 5.2% in July from June

In July this year, the volume of coal transported by railway in China totaled 127.32 million mt, down 12.4 percent or 18.04 million mt year on year and decreasing by 5.2 percent or 6.99 million mt month on month, according to the statistics released by China National Energy Administration.

In the January-July period of this year, coal volumes transported by Chinese railways reached 1.00047 billion mt, up 1.0 percent or 10.21 million mt compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, in July alone, 38.9096 million mt of coal were transported by railway in major Chinese coal producing province Shanxi, down 10.07 percent or 4.3551 million mt on year-on-year basis and indicating a month-on-month decrease of 3.9 percent or 1.6191 million mt.

China expects its annual capacity for coal transportation by railway to reach 3 billion mt in 2015 on the back of increased investments, China National Energy Administration stated.
