On March 30, the Indian Ministry of Coal signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state-owned coal company Coal India Limited (CIL) for its key performance areas for the fiscal year 2010-11.

According to the MoU for the fiscal year 2010-11, CIL's targeted production and coal off-take have been set at 461.5 million metric tons and 462.5 million metric tons respectively.

The company's previous production target for FY 2009-10 was 435 million metric tons, which is 5.95 percent lower compared to the new target. The production results of the company for FY 2009-10 are yet to be announced. However, in February, CIL chairman Partha Bhattacharyya said the company was unlikely to meet its targets for 2009-10 due to delayed projects.
