Coal exports from Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 8.99 million mt in May this year, increasing by 40.9 percent compared to April, according to the company's announcement. 13 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals in May was coking coal.
According to the the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in May this year, with shipments to Japan accounting for 45.83 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 16.96 percent of the total.
PWCS accounts for one third of Austrlia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
