Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port decrease

In the week ended May 26, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.80 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a decrease of 19.06 percent compared to the previous week ended May 19, in which a week-on-week increase of 39.24 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
                        
In the May 1-26 period, Newcastle port exported 10.08 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 13.35 million mt in the whole of May. 
 
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
