Coal exports from Australia’s Newcastle decrease in the previous week

In the week ended September 24, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.5 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an 13.8 percent decrease compared to the previous week, following a week-on-week increase of 12.2 percent recorded in the week ended September 17.

In the period September 1-24, Newcastle port exported 9.04 million mt of thermal and coking coal, while the port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 10.9 million mt for the whole of September.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
