The largest iron ore pellet producer in the US, Cleveland, Ohio-based Cliffs Natural Resources, announced Friday that shareholders of Canadian mining company Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Limited have approved Cliffs' acquisition of the company.

The acquisition is expected to close in early Q2 2011, and is subject to several customary closing conditions.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, on January 11 Cliffs announced that it planned to acquire the Canadian mining company.
