Chongqing to eliminate 12 medium and small-sized steel and iron enterprises

Chongqing municipal government has said it will eliminate 12 medium and small-sized steel and iron enterprises within three years in the provincial-level municipality.

According to plan outlined by Chongqing Economic Committee, of the 12 medium and small-sized steel and iron enterprises in question, seven will switch production or be closed down; as regards the other five enterprises, Chongqing Municipal Government will actively aid them to achieve integration of their assets with Chongqing Iron and Steel Group.

Moreover, in order to improve air quality in Chongqing and to restructure the steel and iron industry in the municipality, Chongqing Iron and Steel Group has decided to move to a new location in the Chongqing Changshou district. Carried out in three phrases, the transferral is expected to be completely finished by 2010. At the new location, new production techniques will be adopted to build an environment-friendly steel and iron enterprise with the advantages of energy savings and more efficient consumption.
