Chinese steelmaker Chongqing Iron and Steel Co. (Chongqing Steel) has announced that it has inked a steel plate supply agreement for the current year with Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province-based Guangzhou Shipyard International Company (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
In 2011, Chongqing Steel produced 6.0299 million mt of crude steel and 5.7301 million mt of finished steel, up by 32.24 percent and 34.28 percent year on year, respectively. In the year in question, Chongqing Steel's annual output of shipbuilding plate totaled 2.08 million mt, ranking second in the overall Chinese industry.
Meanwhile, Chongqing Steel has also signed strategic steel plate supply agreements with shipbuilding companies such as Jiangsu New Century Shipbuilding Co., China State Shipbuilding Corporation and Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding Co.
