In April this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 90,000 mt and 870,000 mt, down 18.1 percent and 2.0 percent year on year, while import volumes of steel pipes/hollow profiles and angles/channels respectively amounted to 30,000 mt and 30,000 mt, up 10.3 percent and 15.4 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.
In the January-April period of the current year, China’s steel bars and angles/channels imports amounted to 350,000 mt and 130,000 mt, down 16.9 percent and 0.8 percent year on year, while imports of steel pipes/hollow profiles and steel plate totaled 130,000 mt and 3.82 million mt, up 1.0 percent and 0.2 percent year on year.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in April this year China imported 1.045 million mt of finished steel, decreasing by 3.2 percent year on year. In the January-April period of the year, China imported 4.496 million mt of finished steel, down 1.3 percent year on year.
