China’s scrap imports in the first half

With 847'000 tons in June, China's total scrap steel imports reached 5.04 million tons and $1.26 billion trade value through the first half of 2005. Through the first six months, the US accounted for 23% of China's scrap imports with 1.17 million tons. Kazakhstan (1.06 million tons), Japan (974'800 tons) and Russian Federation (501'400 tons) were other major scrap exporters to China.
