China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has lately issued a notice warning of possible power supply shortages in most parts of the country. In particular, in summer the gap between supply and demand is expected to be great in the eastern, northern, southern areas of China.

On April 18, Xue Jing, director of statistics at China Electricity Council (CEC), told Chinese media that in some areas power shortages have already been experienced. In Hunan, Hubei and other areas, coal stocks for electricity recently fell to a four-day supply.
