After announcing approval on September 5 of spending on 25 metro and urban rail projects worth as much as RMB 800 billion ($126.98 billion), China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has further announced approvals of 30 projects involving public road constructions, adjustment in ports and ship routes, as well as waste water treatment. The overall investment total in both the 25 urban rail project and the 30 construction projects is estimated at over RMB 1 trillion ($157.635 billion).
Feasibility reports for 10 waste water treatment plant projects for five provinces including Henan, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia have been approved, while highway expansion projects for provinces including Jilin, Jiangxi and Zhejiang have also received approval. In addition, feasibility reports on 13 public road projects in Hebei, Xinjiang, Liaoning, Gansu and Yunnan have been approved, while seven projects relating to ports and ship routes have also received approval from the NDRC.
These infrastructure investments form part of efforts by the Chinese government to stabilize domestic economic growth against a background of economic uncertainty and weak external demand.
