China's machinery industry's
production and sales for the first nine months of the year were healthy and exhibited steady growth, indicate statistics from
China's Machinery Industry Federation.

Total industrial output in the first nine months was RMB 2.949578 trillion ($363.7 billion), up 20.25 percent year on year. Total sales volume was RMB 2.86624 trillion ($353.4 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20.64 percent. The percentage of accomplished sale volume in total
production volume for September was 97.62 percent. The year-to-date percentage was 97.17 percent, a new high in 2005, but still lower than that of the nationwide percentage (97.86 percent) for all industries.
The growth rate of total output for the first nine months of the year exceeded 20 percent. Sales volume continues to show a slight upward trend. Total sales volume for the machinery industry was RMB 2.86624 trillion ($353.4 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20.64 percent.
Total export transaction volume for the first nine months was RMB 483.512 billion ($59.6 billion), 31.99 percent higher year on year.

64 out of 94 kinds of products saw monthly output increases in September, while 74 of 94 products saw increases in year-to-date terms. For details, please see the following:
I. Demand for agricultural machines such as medium and large-scale tractors is strong. Output of medium and large-scale tractors in the first nine months was 123'118 units, surpassing the total produced in the whole of 2004.
II. Demand for project machinery products remained unchanged. Sales volume of forklifts increased 15.4 percent, while products like cement mixers and steamrollers saw demand drop 5.38 percent and 21.95 percent respectively.

Automotive output increased monthly. Total output for the first nine months was 4.4584 million units, up 9.99 percent year on year. Most notably, sedan output was up 17.72 percent year on year.
IV. Demand for electricity generators is strong, having shown healthy growth through the first nine months of the year. Its lowest growth rate was 21.67 percent.
